RACE CREDIT POLICY

For those registrants who choose not to participate in the event because of the changes and who do not claim their bib numbers or any of the services and amenities (e.g. t-shirts, timing, refreshments, medical, awards, etc.), a $10 discount may be applied towards next year’s event. You will be placed on a list for this credit automatically, if you do not claim your bib number from this year’s race. Discounted registration information will be available when registration opens in July 2008.

Please refer to the original registration waiver, which can be accessed in your original entry confirmation email from active.com. In the waiver, the race reserved the right to change any element of the course and distance, and stated that no refunds would be issued. Unfortunately, the oil spill has forced the race to change both course and distance. Please know that these changes have NOT been made lightly.

Ocean Beach is just about the only location in San Francisco where a race can accommodate 1,000 runners without requiring road closures and going through a lengthy permit process. However, given the circumstances, obtaining a permit for road closures to accommodate 1,000 runners SAFELY over 6 miles in Golden Gate Park, or any portion of the city, is not feasible given the timing of the oil spill and beach closure so close to Thanksgiving. In addition, consideration has not just been given to the course/distance itself, but also to holding the event at a venue that is conducive to pre/post event activities and parking for 1,000 participants. The Polo Field, at this very late date, is considered to be the best alternative.

The event has not been cancelled. It is continuing, albeit with necessary changes, due to events beyond control. While these elements have changed, not all of the services and amenities that have been long-planned and for which entry fees cover have changed-—e.g. t-shirts, refreshments, portapotties, insurance, cleanup, medical, awards, timing system, etc.

The spirit of the event is intact and we hope to see all registrants on Turkey Day.
